The Practice

SafeCode Consulting is a professional services practice specializing in safety-critical software for regulated industries — aerospace, medical device, industrial safety, and defense. Founded in 2007, the practice has supported programs across these domains consistently in environments where software failure is not an option and certification is not optional.

SafeCode engages at the level the work requires — from embedded staff augmentation to fixed-price defined-deliverable engagements to periodic advisory retainers. Every engagement is staffed with senior expertise. 

The Principal

SafeCode Consulting was founded by Max A. Hinkley, who serves as principal consultant. Max brings cross-domain expertise earned across DO-178C Level A navigation systems, IEC-62304 Class C medical devices, IEC-61508 functional safety systems, and DoD programs with equivalent rigor. He has developed software for organizations including Honeywell Aerospace, Hughes Network Systems, Medtronic, Ford Motor Company, and Emerson-Rosemount Automation. 

Max holds graduate and undergraduate degrees in computer science and software, along with professional certifications in computing and electronics. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
